Microneedling aftercare

As a result of the increased turnover of skin cells, the treated area may peel and flake for three to five days after microneedling. Be careful not to pick or scratch at your skin. For the first 48 hours, thick water-based moisturisers shouldn’t be applied as they could obstruct the pores and raise the risk of skin outbreaks like rashes. Following microneedling, oils are fantastic to apply to the skin. They can lessen the adverse effects and hydrate the skin more deeply than water-based moisturisers. It’s important that you wait at least 24 hours after the session before using makeup on your face. It depends on the individual how long it will take for their skin to recover and be ready for makeup, but it is typically advised to wait a minimum of 24 to 72 hours before going back to your regular makeup routine. The blood flow to the treated regions is increased when you exercise right after your microneedling session, which makes your skin more sensitive, painful, and swollen. Patients are recommended to wait anywhere between 48 and 72 hours after treatment for the skin to completely recover before exercising. Avoid drinking alcohol for seven days after your treatment. Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it dehydrates the body. Dehydration will significantly slow down the repair of your skin.

Chemical peel aftercare

The purpose of a chemical peel is to remove the top layers of the epidermis along with any discoloured cells within those layers. Skin will flake and PEEL after the treatment and you should not interfere with the natural healing process. Try not to touch the skin after a peel – the skin has had a trauma and needs to heal.  The skin needs to be treated gently. Do not pick at the skin if the skin starts to flake and peel.  This is a completely natural process and what is meant to happen.  You only want the dead skin to come away, the dead skin cells can be attached to live skin and should shed naturally when the skin is ready. Do not use exfoliators or any desquamation products. A chemical peel removes the dead skin (causes desquamation) and we do not want this to be added to.  The peels alone are enough for the skin.  Please refrain from make up for 24 hours for best results but only if necessary, a tinted moisturiser may be used with an SPF in after a few hours. Drink lots of water post peel. Wear a sunscreen until the skin is completely healed. Don’t use sunbeds or sunbathe, Don’t use any heat treatments such as saunas etc. Use a good moisturiser to help with hydration of the skin.
